SlowMo determines the optimal number of spares to store based on risk analysis, service level and financial costings across single or multiple sites.
The most difficult part of reducing inventory is knowing what to do with your slow moving critical “insurance” spares.
Other commercial solutions are only aimed at one of the five key decision makers when in fact all five should be involved:
- Engineers need to know the spare is available when he needs to fit it.
- Production needs to know the machine is always available.
- Stores need to be able to justify holding the spares.
- Finance needs the most cost effective solution.
- Purchasing doesn't want to buy surplus spares.
SlowMo brings together input from all the interested parties within your group in order to find the optimal solution.
A key area is understanding the context the spare is used in. As well as modelling the redundancy of the spare part, eg where an item operates in a 1 of 2 configuration, SlowMo also takes into account redundancy of the equipment it is attached to, eg across multiple process trains or multiple different processes.
The new version of SlowMo, currently in development, has the ability to calculate these decisions across multiple sites. Taking into account times and costs between different sites in different parts of the world, SlowMo will recommend which sites should store these spares and in what quantities in order to supply all the sites.
